Hello World

Welcome Home

Hi, I am Wen Tjun.

I'm a software engineer. I love JavaScript/TypeScript, design, and a good cup of coffee.

I strongly believe in making use of technology to create value and improve the lives of people. I have been writing software for around 4 years, and my experiences include building web applications, hybrid applications, and design systems. I write to consolidate my learning experiences as a software engineer.

I graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in May 2018.

Dreamer. Believer. Achiever.

Outside of my professional life, I have the following pursuits:

  • Casual Photography. I work with my iPhone 11 Pro Max and Sony camera.
  • More programming. I enjoy working on data visualisations, and my tools include D3.js and Mapbox. From time to time, I pop by StackOverflow and answer a few questions.
  • Fitness and Martial arts. I have been trained in various martial arts including Muay Thai, Boxing, and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. Talk to me about nutrition, strength programmes, and fitness in general!

Some of my Work

This is a list of side projects I had worked on.

COVID-19 Initiatives

Open Data Source of COVID-19/Coronavirus cases and cluster locations in Singapore, which includes metadata such as hospitalisation/discharge dates and news summaries. Data is scraped from local news sources and government websites using Cheerio and Node.js. This has extended into a visualisation project covid-tracker.com which provides insights about the development of COVID-19 in Singapore. The web project is built with React, TypeScript, Redux, Redux Observable, RxJS, Styled Components, and Mapbox.

Visualisations with D3.js

Recreated historical price charts of financial instruments (source code). Published several beginner friendly guides about D3.js on freeCodeCamp.

Visualised the lineage of the top Brazilian Jiu-jitsu competitors, practioners, and coaches using a dendogram/tree structure (source code).

I am always on the lookout for interesting projects.

If you would like to collaborate on any of the following areas, we should talk.
